Semi-permanent makeup, also known as permanent makeup (PMU), or micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is a procedure that involves the implementation of pigments between the epidermis (upper layer) and the dermis (middle layer) of the skin using a digital tattoo machine with a very fine needle to enhance natural features of the face.
The retention of semi-permanent makeup varies depending on different factors such as skin types, lifestyle, pre and post care, types of pigments, artist’s skill, etc. On average, it can last from one (1) to three (3) years. Periodic touch-ups are recommended to maintain the desired look.
No, although microblading has been a popular eyebrow tattoo technique for many years, I only perform nano brows technique due to many advantages such as less scarring to the skin, more natural and more precise than microblading.
Microblading is a technique that can create hair-like strokes to the eyebrows by depositing pigment into the skin using a hand-held tool with a small blade consisting of small needles.
Nano brows use a digital tattoo machine and small cartridge needle to implant pigment into the skin more precisely, allowing artists to create various eyebrow patterns and less traumatic to the skin.
Yes and No depending on each individual’s pain tolerance and different parts of the skin (e.g. lips tattoo is more painful than eyebrows). However, topical anesthetic cream (5% Lidocaine) is applied before and during the procedure to keep you comfortable.
There are other factors that can contribute to the unpleasantness such as menstrual cycle, fibromyalgia, frequent smoker, taking blood thinner (e.g. ibuprofen and aspirin), etc.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have diabetes; heart diseases; auto-immune disease; anemic; allergic to metal; allergic to lidocaine and epinephrine; have history with cold sores; keloids; extremely oily skin; and eczema or psoriasis on the area. Please check out more at the Pre/Post care section.
Absolutely. The procedure involves the use of sterile, disposable needles. Equipment and work space are wrapped and sterilized before and after procedure to minimize the risk of contamination and infection.
Consult with your primary care physician or pharmacist, they may prescribe you with antiviral medication such as Acyclovir or Valacyclovir 3 days before and 3 days after the procedure.
I only use high quality pigments from brands such Hanafy, EtalonMix, and Perma Blend. They are made with the highest quality ingredients, ensuring they are safe, sterile and produce beautiful healed colors without becoming gray or unwanted colors.
